National Transit Centre GP CARE
The National Transit Centre Clinic at Citywest provides GP primary care services to international protection applicants who are residing or passing through the centre.
How this service helps
For many international protection applicants, the National Transit Centre is their first point of contact with Ireland's healthcare system. The clinic provides accessible GP care during a period of significant transition, helping patients address immediate health concerns, access screening for communicable diseases, and begin managing any ongoing conditions. With phone interpreters available and a low-threshold approach, patients can communicate their needs regardless of language. Medical records created here travel with patients through Safetynet's shared record network, meaning their care history follows them if they move to other accommodation or services—reducing the need to repeat their story and ensuring continuity of care.
Funded by the HSE Health & Wellbeing initiative and delivered in partnership with the on-site HSE team, the clinic operates seven days a week with phone interpreters available for those who need them.
Our national transit centre clinic provides vital healthcare access to children and adults in the international protection system.
