SAFETYNET’S STATEMENT ON GAZA
We are deeply concerned about the scale of the devastation, death and injury of people in Gaza, and the numerous attacks on healthcare facilities and staff there.
We stand in solidarity with our healthcare colleagues there, who are working in unimaginably difficult circumstances; and with the healthcare workers in Israel who advocate for human rights and medical neutrality.
Safetynet’s Vision is equal access to health care for all. This is being denied in Gaza. Healthcare facilities and healthcare workers must be given the protection they are entitled to under international humanitarian law.
We support the efforts of our government, the UN General Assembly, and the International Court of Justice to bring an end to the violence. We support the calls from international health and humanitarian organisations for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire; the passage of adequate humanitarian aid into Gaza, and the immediate evacuation of sick and injured people who cannot be cared for in Gaza to treatment abroad.
